Commanding Officer’s Report

Dear Parents,

Since our last letter the squadron cadets have participated in many different community events including the Citizenship Ceremony, the Coho Salmon Festival on September 7th and the spectacular Battle of Britain Ceremony on September 21. In addition we were pleased to have 15 cadets airborne at Pitt Meadows on September 27th and also a good turnout for the gliding on October 12th at Abbotsford.

Lions Bay Search and Rescue have agreed to provide a presentation(s) to the cadets and as you will see from the photos we had a great turnout for another opportunity to be airborne ie Ziplining on Grouse Mountain last Saturday. We have many other opportunities being considered for the cadets in the future including public speaking coaching, First Aid Courses, Drill Team and Range plus trips to BCIT Aviation College. C.I. Joyce, an officer of the squadron and former pilot (who initially qualified through the air cadet programme) has begun to conduct a ground school course on Thursday evenings for those cadets who are interested and are old enough to try out for their glider pilot qualification.

Cadets have been advised that a Best Dressed Cadet Award/Top Cadet Award is to be awarded to a cadet every month on the CO Parade. Qualified cadets must attend cadet every Tuesday night for the whole month.

I think you will agree that the cadets have a lot to look forward too.

Yours Sincerely,
2Lt. Cal Shamper

Sponsoring Committee Chair’s Report

Dear Parents

Our Squadron has had a great start to the year! We are very proud of all of our cadets that attended so many important events in September such as the Candlelight Ceremony, Battle of Britain, Coho Festival and Gliding in Pitt Meadows. Our cadets have been front and centre in our community and the youth are noticing. Each meeting we have welcomed new youth interested in joining Air Cadets and I look forward to seeing many new faces in our squadron.

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce this year’s Sponsoring Committee:

Chair – Marilyn Martin
Vice-Chair – Marguerite Radelet
Secretary – Nerissa Poon
Treasurer – Peter Moore
Public Relations – Caroline Moore

Many of us are new to the Sponsoring Committee and look forward to the exciting year ahead. We are very pleased to be welcoming three new Volunteer Instructors (VI’s), Robert Wilkinson, Susie Walker and Toni Terava. It is gratifying to have so many committed people to work with our cadets and be truly impressive role models for our children. Our squadron can not operate without volunteers so please consider signing up as a volunteer even if it is only for a few hours!

Our staff has many activities planned for the year. Please mark the upcoming event dates as noted in the side column. Your cadet receives emails on a weekly basis reminding them of upcoming events and important information. We are in the process of setting up a website for our squadron at ww.525pathfinder.com so that you can stay up to date on all the important information and events happening at 525. We plan to have the website completely operational by November 1st so look for it then!

As the Chair of 525 Sponsoring Committee I have been committed to get to know our fine cadets. I am at the Squadron each Tuesday starting at 6:15pm so please stop by and say hello when you are dropping off.
