About
525 Squadron was formed in November of 1950, under the command of Flying Officer Bob McDonald. The Squadron rose to 70 members by 1955, and paraded at the Ambleside Headquarters Army huts, part of a W.W.II station supporting artillery defence of the Georgia Strait. At that time, regular parades were held on Thursday evenings at 7:30 pm. The minimum age was 14 and girls were not allowed. Facilities were excellent, and interest in the Cadet programme was very high. 525 Cadets consistently brought home top national awards.
The Squadron moved in the late 60’s, to St David’s United Church, and after an unknown period of time moved again to the Inglewood Community Centre. There the Squadron prospered for many years, at one point being among the largest squadrons in BC. Programs were varied and numerous, and attendance at summer camps was high.
In the early 1990’s, the Inglewood Community Centre was closed, and 525 Squadron was without a home for nearly a year. After a short respite in the Capilano Gun Club (the original army hut LHQ, now the Ambleside Youth Center), we were graciously offered free accommodation at Collingwood School, where we paraded up until the fall of 2000. At that time, we moved to the South Campus of West Vancouver Secondary School, where we paraded for the next two years. We are now parading in new accomodations at Cederdale School, just off Taylor Way.
